The latest technology in this area is Cryogenic lipolysis This technique is more advanced than and very different to other techniques developed to date. It is a body sculpting technique based on the freezing of unwanted fat in different parts of the body to a specific temperature without damaging neighboring tissues, thus breaking down the cell membranes, after which the fat is absorbed and eliminated by scavenger cells known as macrophages. The technique is a very simple one; the device contains a special headpiece. This is applied to the region where from where fat is to be removed, and the treatment begins. The device chills the area to which it is applied. Treatment involves no pain or discomfort and lasts for 30-45 minutes, with the patient resting. Mild results begin immediately after treatment, and the best outcomes are obtained in between 2 and 4 months.
Using presently available devices, very successful results are today obtained in the upper and lower abdominal areas, the hips, the sides of the waist (love handles), the back and the inside of the thighs.
During a 45-minute session, the subcutaneous fat layer is chilled in a completely controlled manner without damaging the skin. This chilling causes fat cells to enter the process known as apoptosis, or irreversible loss of fat cell functions. Dead fat cells are expelled naturally from the body through the inflammatory system, and significant thinning occurs in the fat layer over the course of time.
